Registration Form for New Members

There are five different types of membership in BABA:

Professional Non-Profit Corporate £75.00 per year   Students £50.00 per year
Amateur Supporter Retired £55.00 per year

The full payment categories are primarily so that we have an idea of what type of members we have attracted.
Only smiths in the Professional category will show in the public Blacksmiths Search Engine, though everyone's work will be visible in the Gallery.
(BABA members will have access to all other BABA members online)

Student Membership Explained:

Student Membership of BABA at a reduced subscription rate is granted at the discretion of the Council of BABA.

To qualify for Student Membership you must be a full-time student in secondary school education; or a full-time apprentice to a professional blacksmith or metalworker; or a student on a recognised full-time further education course leading to a nationally approved qualification - this would normally be in blacksmithing; metalworking, including engineering; or an appropriate full-time art college course such as sculpture. Students in full-time further education courses in other subjects will be considered for reduced subscription individually by the Council of BABA. There are no age requirements.

Students on short or part-time courses are not eligible .

Please send a copy of your student card, or a letter from your school confirming your student status after filling in your application form (or you may upload a scanned image with the facility below). If you are an apprentice, please send a letter from your employer confirming your apprentice status. BABA recognises that once you have finished a blacksmithing course or apprenticeship, it takes time to generate income, and will allow student members an extension of their Student Membership of the Association, normally to a maximum of 5 years*. After that time you must change to Full Membership. Student members who join while at Secondary school and who subsequently go on to full-time further education in an appropriate subject may apply to the Council for an extension to this rule - each application will be considered on its merits.

*Student members should note that their contact details will not be available to potential customers looking to commission work from the BABA website - only the details of fully paid-up professional members will be given to the public - so it may be worth paying the full sub as soon as you wish to seek commissions. (BABA members will have access to all other BABA members online).

Magazine Subscription Only

You can subscribe to the magazine only, but you must live outside the UK. You will not get the benefits of full membership (no listing on this website, no voting rights, no discounts to events, etc.) EU members pay £49, all others pay £55. Click here to access the subscription form
