Nordic Blacksmith Championship

The Nordic Blacksmith Council is composed of the blacksmith associations in each Nordic country. The Championship is one of things we are working together to set up. We meet to have fun, share ideas and get inspiration from each other's way of thinking and working.
TheNordic Blacksmith Council, Norwegian Blacksmith Association and the local division Odda Blacksmith Association (member of the head organisation in Norway) take pleasure in welcoming you all to Odda in August. We hope to see you there and let us all make this a great happening.
- Theme: the Nordic Championship jury will decide the theme for the championship
- Head judge: Professor Heiner Zimmerman from Germany
- Judge from Norway: Master blacksmith Erik Gjendem
- There will also be judges from Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark, to be named in later info
There will be opportunities to join several workshops and short courses:
- Fold forging. Teachers: Sjur Axel Pherson and Torbjørn (Tobbe) Malm.
- Navar forging. Teacher: Master Navar blacksmith Johannes I Fosse.
- Knife forging, 3 layers. Teacher: Steen Nilsen
- Axe forging with forge welded steel in the centre. Teacher: Terje A Granås.
- Heiner Zimmerman will give a talk (the theme will be announced later).
- There will be common blacksmith work to join. The theme will be announced later.
If there is special theme or course that you wish to try, we will do our best to arrange it.
There will be held a Blacksmith exhibition before and during the Championship and it is possible for blacksmiths from Europe to join. At present the time and date has not been set.
There will be a separate exhibition ongoing borrowed from OSLO city museum, named: Forge when the iron is hot. Karen Bjerke is the creator and has done a huge amount of work to make it possible for the public to look back into the histories of Norwegian forge work. She will come and talk about her work and the vision behind it.

The Location:
Odda is an old industrial town and the regional capital of the Hardangerfjord area. The Championship will take place in the old huge smelting plant (1908) where the largest blacksmith forge in Norway has now been restored.
The Norwegian Hydroelectric and Industrial Museum and the local blues and rock club are supporting the festival.
Haugesund is the closest airport and 2 hours by bus from beautiful Odda.
If you come by air to Oslo, Sandefjord or Bergen there are busses that can bring you to Odda.

If you are brining your family, you might like to go sea fishing or go up in the mountains for fly fishing in one of Norway's good fishing lakes. Or just enjoy the mountains and the good weather.
